The Perfect Meatball Sandwich

whole San Marzano tomatoes

1/4 cup

extra-virgin olive oil

7 cloves

garlic (peeled and slivered or diced)

1/4 cup

water

1/4 tsp

salt (or to taste)

1 1/2 tsp

sugar

1/4 tsp

dried oregano

crushed red pepper flakes

large fresh basil sprig (or 1/4 teaspoon dried basil)

French rolls

Butter

Garlic powder

to 16 large meatballs (fully cooked and warmed)

1 cup

shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil (optional for topping)


NOTES

  • Made 3/5/18. A really good meatball marinara. Great for meatball subs. (Just used the marinara part of the recipe.)
