potatoes, cut into 2 inch pieces ((you can peel them but I never do - I love potato skins in my mashed potatoes!))
1/2 cup
sour cream ((light is okay, regular will yield richer flavor))
1/4 cup
half and half or heavy cream
4 tsp
minced garlic (or 2 teaspoons garlic powder)
3 tbsp
butter
salt and pepper to taste ((I use about 1 1/2 teaspoons salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper))
