unsulphered molasses (I recommend a medium molasses as opposed to dark or robust, and not blackstrap; it’s too pungent and bitter)
1 tbsp
light or dark brown sugar, packed (I use light brown)
1 1/4 cups
buttermilk* (see Buttermilk Tips below if you don’t have it on hand)
