FOR THE FROSTING:

1 stick

unsalted butter, at room temperature

1/2 cup

shortening

1 1/2

lbs. confectioners’ sugar

1 tbsp

vanilla extract

1/3 cup

caramel sauce (not syrup. It's too thin)

*optional* heavy cream or milk
