dehydrating mint… don't make the same mistakes i did

1 stalks

the first year i mint i just cut the hung them up and put to in the sun

1 serving

left them too long

1 serving

they were brown and dusty

1 serving

little brown

1 serving

year i tried each of the batches as tea and i have to say they were disgusting. sort of like dirty dishwater without any flavour

1 serving

all herbs

1 serving

so why wasn't i able to get some decent tea out of it

1 serving

okay… so i could use it but what on those winter nights after dinner

1 serving

the second thing i learned was to pick the mint first thing in the morning after the dew has dried. the oils in the plant are the strongest and most concentrated at this time

1 serving

the third thing i learned was if you put the dehydrated on too high a setting

1 leaves

supposedly the best time to pick is just before the mint plant forms a flower bud as you will get the most flavour from the at this time

1 serving

so

1 serving

to start the process i picked it in the morning after the dew was off the leaves

1 serving

arranging the mint as in the pictures below i proceeded to put on the dehydrator

95

making sure that the dehydrator was set at the lowest level i started the machine

3

the spearmint looked a little brown

1 serving

both mints smelled delicious

1 cups

to give it the taste test i made two of tea to sample and they were both aromatic and pleasing to the palate

1 can

i now say that my mint dehydration has the smell of success… in more ways than one
